Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka

Polonnaruwa, about 230 km away from Colombo city, is the second most ancient of Sri Lanka's kingdom. The city served as the Island’s capital from the 11th to 13th centuries. It is one of the heritage cities in cultural triangle in Sri Lanka, and known for its Buddhist arts and architecture. Polonnaruwa has been declared as World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1982.
